If all goes well it's now facing the same direction as it's target, and the next turn it should be able to do a boarding action. Usually the next round I take another big ship, like the Military Frigate, and sail it up to one of the outer ships, grapeshot it, then spin 180 degrees and grape shot it again. That drops a Carak down to a level that a Caravel can handle.Īnd I LOVE the fire arrow, as it takes the 3rd big ship out of action for 1 round, which can be priceless in an evenly matched fight. One time I killed 70 sailors on the first shot, and 65 on the 2nd. That usually leaves the 2 big ships emasculated, (not enough sailors to fully man guns), and I can probably board them the next round. Then if I can I sail to the next big ship, do the fire arrows into it, and then pop smoke. I do grapeshot from both sides, do the reload guns, another round of grapeshot into both of them. My normal strategy is to take my SOL (LOL, I love the acronym), and sail it right between the enemies 2 biggest ships up front. Oh, and before you go into battle make sure you stop in a town and max out the number of sailors you have. I have that mix because it gives me the abilities to shoot the fire arrows, spin 180 degrees, reload the guns, and do the lure thing to pull enemies out of the smoke. In my war fleet I have a Ship of the Line, 2 Frigates, 2 Military Frigates, and a Corvette, (which maxes out my command points). Here's what I've figured out so far when it comes to the battles. This is my first time playing the game, and I'm on easy mode, so take all of this with a grain of salt. Why can the AI sometimes repair a ship twice in a turn? When I have the ability to repair in a battle, which I don't always do I can only use it once per battle.Īre there certain tactics I should try to have in my fleets? It seems some tactics are determined by ship, some by captain. Maybe it is because I am the adventurer? I was only successful one time and I think I used a skill to boost boarding ability. I want to board the Spanish and steal their ships, I try to wear down their crew with musket shot but even then when I try to board it says I don't have enough crew. I try to focus on one or two Spanish ships during a battle first, sink or board them and get them out of the way then move on to the next. I generally outnumber the Spanish but am usually outgunned, though that is starting to change now that I can also produce Galleons. I am playing the English Campaign right now and have just recaptured Port Royale, my fleets are having a lot of trouble fighting the Spanish fleets, either losing or taking heavy damage.
